After anti-terrorist agent Jason DesJardin survived the explosion that killed Emily Holmes’s father, he went deep undercover. Guilt and his dark past kept him from returning for her. When Emily discovers ties between the old bombing and the terrorists, she finagles an assignment to Jason’s next mission. The balance of world power drops into her inexperienced hands, and she is forced to play a dangerous game of seduction with Mosel Reinhardt, the notorious international arms dealer. Is Reinhardt peddling the nanotech chip technology, or are Emily’s instincts about him correct?
The mission heats up when Jason finds he can’t resist Emily—agency computer genius gone femme fatale—any more than Mosel can. After years of waiting to have her again, the tables turn. Jason is unwilling to share her now, but will he be able to watch her seduce Mosel in order to find her father’s killer? Would she stop if he asked her?
A Siren Erotic Romance
Exclusive Excerpt:

All Jason could focus on was her soft skin and that glint of gold.
Emily said, “We have plenty of time before dinner. Let’s go check it out.”
He squeezed his eyes shut. “Okay,” he agreed. Anything to get her off that bed before he lost it. Swimming? What harm would come from a nice cold pool? Perhaps he sounded a little too enthusiastic, because Emily crinkled her brow at him, and looked perplexed. With all his blood pooling ever lower in his body, he had to remind himself to act normal.
He wouldn’t think about her that way. He shook his head to clear his wayward thoughts. “I haven’t been in yet, but I heard the weather’s been pretty warm this spring. I guess we could test it out.”
He headed to the door, sure she was already suspicious about his stupid behavior.
Following behind him, she stayed on target. “The water should be warm. That solar panel Dad installed last year better come in handy for more than ugly roof décor.”
He rushed down the rear stairs, heading straight to the poolside cabana in the back yard. She chased after him, barely able to keep up. She stared at him as if he’d lost his mind, shook her head, and grabbed her spare suit from the locker. Emily padded past him into the bathroom with a look of bewilderment on her face. He grabbed his suit and without a word rounded the patio into the other bathroom.
Although he was quick, hoping to get in the pool before she did, Emily rounded the corner at the same time he did, bumping into him. When he saw her long legs in the bathing suit, the lump forming in his throat was impossible to swallow. His body quickened.
Maybe he should have rethought this diversion idea. A horrible question popped into his head. What if he couldn’t resist her? He was suddenly afraid, very afraid.
This pool idea seemed like another big mistake, until he jumped into the water, the cool water. With a sigh of relief, he thought, Thank God. The cold water helped.
Instead of getting in the pool right away, Emily grabbed a bottle of Chardonnay from the refrigerator under the poolside bar, opened it, and poured two plastic glasses with the dexterity of someone well practiced. He frowned, “A little too adept at that, don’t you think? At least for someone whose twenty-first birthday was only last week.”
“Give me a break, Jason. It was a long drive down here. And where do you think I’ve been, in a convent?”
He rolled his eyes. I wish.
“I’ve been in New York City for four years. You know, the Big Apple? Besides, I already did the drunken coming of age thing last week. You know, shots and all-night clubbing. Now, do you want something, or are you just going to treat me like a baby and nag me about my behavior?”
A bowl of strawberries with a chocolate crème dip was in the refrigerator. She slowly picked out a strawberry, licked the crème from the juicy fruit, and bit into it. She swirled her tongue over her lips and popped the rest into her mouth, then tossed one at him. He caught the fruit in the air and ate it.
Maybe a relaxing drink was what he needed. “I’d rather have a beer if there’s one in there. Give me the bottle and keep the glass.” His voice was beginning to sound sharp even to his own ears. Her body in that bathing suit was going to kill him.
What was wrong with him? She was totally covered. It was a one piece, conservative on someone else’s body. However, on her it was killing him, and she didn’t even realize it. Or did she?
Was that it? Her ultimate power? She was so unaware.
“Get in here, please. We don’t have all day.”
She took a sip of her wine and walked over to him as he watched her. “I’m coming,” she answered, and he wanted to groan at the innuendo.
She bent over, giving him an unobstructed view of her cleavage as she handed him the beer. She kept her eyes on his as he took it from her. Their hands touched, and she didn’t move away. When his lips kissed the mouth of the bottle, he wished he could take the pert nipple peaking through the material of the suit into his mouth. The muscles in his throat contracted with desire. He swallowed. He put the half-empty bottle on the pool deck as he slid underwater, floating just below the surface, still looking up at her.
She went to the shallow end and tested the temperature of the water with her toes before she slowly slipped in and under.
Jason watched the water sluice through her hair, turning it to burgundy, stretching the untamable curls down her back, calming the wildness. When the curls were wet, her hair reached well past her waist. She looked like an ephemeral mermaid. Sometimes when he looked in her eyes he saw the Caribbean, sometimes a shallow sea green, sometimes the deep teal of the marine waters. They were always an interesting mix of ocean colors. Chameleon colored.
He wanted to run his hands over her soft pale skin, cream colored against the turquoise of the bathing suit.
The coolness of the water wasn’t going to be enough to temper his growing desire. But as long as he kept her attention on his face, he was safe.
Emily looked at him. “Are you grimacing or squinting? Is this still about the wine?” She didn’t even pause as she continued. “Look, you’re not my brother, I have a father, and I’m a big girl now. What’s bothering you? I’m twenty-one, a grown woman. You’re only seven years older.”
She interrupted the next words out of his mouth. “Okay, okay, almost eight,” she conceded. “Big deal! It’s time you stopped trying to act like some ancient elder. She forced him to accept her point of view.
“Okay, I apologize, you’re right,” Jason said. After watching her grow from an imp to a beauty, that “woman” stuff she mentioned was hard to miss. Standing before him, waist high in water, there was no doubt about that
Her eyes widened at his admission. She continued walking in the shallow water, moving toward him, until she stepped right up against him. His gaze drifted down to where he knew he would see her nipples pebbling beneath the thin material of her suit. He didn’t want to get caught staring at her, but he couldn’t take his eyes off them. Why was he torturing himself like this?
In spite of the water temperature, he grew painfully erect. Hoping she wouldn’t notice what was becoming impossible for him to hide— and knowing Emily, she would look. The knowing made him harder still.
God, what’s wrong with me? I’m not some horny teenager.
He could only croak, “Okay, okay, you’re a big girl now. I’ll leave you alone about all that stuff.” It was easier to concede and retreat than to try to deal with the power she had over his body. He wanted to disengage the arms she draped around his neck. The vain attempt was weak at best, but her body made his arms feel heavy, paralyzed. She pressed her body against him, rubbing her mound against his erection just to let him know she knew the effect she was having on him. The smirk on her face said it all. Then, while holding onto him, with the lightest touch, she brought her lips to his.
His heart raced, his breathing stopped. He panicked as a big smile started to form on her lips.
She dunked him.
He came up, sputtering and relieved. This, he could handle. Grabbing for her, Jason announced, “You know you just declared war, don’t you?”

~~~Now here’s an excerpt from my short contemporary erotic released this week.
More Than a Stud by Eliza March
Published by The Wild Rose Press
With her biological clock ticking away, Carina Roth, CEO and owner of a corporate security company, wants a child. On the night of her forty-second birthday, Carina's 35-year-old corporate intel officer, Evan Douglas, offers to be her baby's daddy. Evan not only wants to father Carina's child, he's ready to prove he can fulfill her every need and that, for Carina, he wants to be...more than a stud.
Exclusive excerpt:
“You? You want them all to think you and I…? But you’re—”
“Yeah. Younger. So what? You’re younger than Daniel, and Cynthia’s younger than you. You’re the CEO. When older men date younger chicks, their reps go up a notch. I don’t mind being the CEO’s boy toy if that CEO is you.” The timber of his voice dropped an octave, and his interest sounded sincere.
Man, he’s good.
“Right,” she murmured beneath her breath. “Ha. Ha.”
When he kissed her cheek and nuzzled her neck, she couldn’t decide whether to surrender to her embarrassment and play along with his chivalry or not. She decided to go along with him for the moment, taking advantage of her young knight in shining armor because it felt so damn good, but she wouldn’t let him think she’d consider his offer for real.
She backed up and looked him up and down. “Humph, like anyone would ever take you for a boy toy.”
“Sounds perfect, boss.”
No matter how hard Cari tried to sound casual, her voice sounded breathless when her words filtered through her constricted throat, “Thanks for the offer, anyway.”
He chuckled, but she thought she’d made a good point. He was six-six and two-hundred and twenty pounds of lean muscle. Most women couldn’t get past ogling his body to discover he had a genius IQ. The day she’d seen his resume come through, she snatched it up before human resources filed it away. He sounded like just what the company needed, and then she practically choked when she saw him, all beauty, brains, and brawn.
“You’re thinking too much.” He put his hands of her shoulders.
“Can’t help it.” She stiffened and gently shrugged off his hands. She turned to study his expression.
He was sincere. The surfer length blond hair didn’t soften the hard planes and angles of his face, but his pale blue eyes were the sharpest she’d ever encountered. The fact that he never flaunted the full package he brought to the table was one of the most endearing things about him. After the interview, resume, and field tests, he was her number one choice for the position, and having his cock pressed against her ass wasn’t what she’d had in mind at the time.
Although, in retrospect, she had to admit he was perfect for that position, too. Maybe she should rethink their relationship. She needed a sperm donor. He’d be perfect, but would asking him be fair? From the way his body and hers were reacting, their hormones had intentions of their own and would make the question moot if she allowed them to pursue this path to its logical conclusion. While her mind followed the high road, her body wanted to slum.
“I can see that brain of yours evaluating everything. Stop. Not everything needs to be analyzed down to the last detail, Cari.”
“Yes, sometimes it does.” She didn’t know what made her even consider what she was thinking. Perhaps those hormone shots they’d given her yesterday had something to do with her body going haywire, and everyone knew that unbridled horniness could lead to acts of indiscretion. She shook her head and turned aside. “I’m not thinking nearly enough.” God, she still sounded breathless.
He turned her by the shoulders and stared hard at her. “Cari, I want you. Believe it.”
“Why?” she asked, truly puzzled by his declaration. As she waited for his answer, she broke her subconscious rule and wondered for one brief moment why she’d fought back sexual thoughts about Evan over the past year. Probably for the same reason she still doubted his motives tonight. He was almost a decade younger—oh, God, that sounded worse than eight or nine years. No, he was the one fondling her, the one making all the moves. Actually, she hadn’t touched him…yet.
Evan cocked his head at her registering disbelief. “Apparently you don’t see yourself the way I see you or you wouldn’t have to ask.”
And she wouldn’t ask again, because she felt a certain level of insecurity rearing its ugly head, reminding her that he was never without a slim, gorgeous woman clinging to him. What would a prime specimen like him want with her—a woman who might have already passed her child bearing years?
God, I’m becoming obsessive with this child bearing thing. But really, a guy like Evan should procreate, reproduce…and often. What if it’s too late for me?
“I’m not just saying all this.” He moved them back a few steps, into a dark, private corner where no one could see them, then lowered his head to hers and whispered, “Come with me somewhere we won’t be disturbed.”
BIO: Ever since I could read, the written word has captivated me. I’ve worked in libraries, written for newspapers, done copy edits, magazine copy and screenplays, but the one thing that always intrigues me is choosing just the right word to express myself.
I write erotic romance as ELIZA MARCH and romantic suspense [Across A Crowded Room] under the name ELIZABETH MARCHAT. To prevent boredom from setting in, I keep my hands in several pots at the same time. Perhaps the characters in my head satisfy my needs to be and do all the things I don't have time for, or wouldn't dare to do. Or would I?
My recent release The Moon, The Madness, and The Magic is a finalist for the Golden Quill and a sequel to first book in The Enchanted Mountain series The Lion, The Leopard, and The Wolf. They are now available at Bookstrand as ebooks, along with my other books, and at Amazon and Barnes & Noble in both eBook and print format.
Please welcome writing duo, T C Archer!
Great to have a writing duo here today! I'd love to learn more how you both work together and the pair of you joined forces in the first place? I cannot imagine working with anyone else on the same piece of work so this combination fascinates me!
Over to you...
T. C. Archer is comprised of award winning authors Evan Trevane and Shawn M. Casey. They live in the Northeast where long, cold winter nights require a roaring fire and a companion of the hot blood persuasion. Evan puts his Ph.D. to good use by writing about alternate realities, and Shawn channels the mythology and philosophy she studied during her wasted youth into writing about exotic places and times.
Space travel, time travel, past or present, love (and lust,) transcend place and time. And Evan and Shawn will go where no man—or woman—has dared go before.
Thanks so much for having us, Rachel. We’re thrilled to visit with you on your blog.
1) What is your writing routine?
Evan--I write in the evenings after supper. I can get a couple hours in on most week nights. On weekends, I get up early and get an hour or two in before everyone else gets up. It’s very quiet in the early morning. I always have to have the TV on, but it’s turned down low. I’ve got my laptop and a cup of strong coffee, and I’m all set.
Shawn--I’m self employed and my schedule isn’t a 9-5 routine, so I plan my writing on a weekly basis. On the days I can, I write as much as possible in the mornings before the concerns of the day pick up speed. Plus, on weekends and days my daughter is home from school, I get a lot more done before she wakes up! I try to write 4 hours a day on average.
2) Which author/s inspire you to write?
Evan--For inspiration, I think about the writers who I wish I was as good as. Philip Roth is an amazing writer. Some of his prose is brilliant. It makes me sit back and think, ‘Wow, I wish I could write like that.’ Some others that really make me want to write are Dennis LaHane, William Gibson (How can you beat this opening line from Neuromancer: ‘The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.’) Philip K. Dick, and Charles Dickens.
Shawn--Gosh, there are some great writers. Stephen King and Ann Rice are two writers whose work I have studied. Charles Dickens is my favorite author. His characterization is quite amazing. Connie Willis and John Sandford--these people know how to write!
3) Which is your favorite romance subgenre to read? To write
We write different forms of suspense and romantic sci-fi, and love reading in these genres/subgenres. Suspense and science fiction allow lots of room for using other elements like paranormal, time travel, even historical (think steam punk.) So we have opportunities to stretch ourselves. Which we love to do!
4) How do you deal with criticism/rejection?
Rejection is a part of the business. (Of course, this attitude comes from plenty of rejection and experience.) No one loves to be rejected, but as writers we have to depend on agents and editors to know their customers’ needs. If we don’t fit that bill then it’s better we’re not with them. If that agent or editor isn’t in love with our work, they won’t sell it. Of course, we often wonder why we get rejected when we see other authors similar to ourselves published by the people who rejected us. There’s no clear cut answer. You just have to move on.
5) What do you expect from an editor?
Ohh. To fix our books? ROFL. We expect an editor to help us make our books better. Editing is a tough process. It’s hard to give someone permission to show us how we can make a book better. (This implies we missed the boat, which every author does.) But, wow, the results can be phenomenal. Bottom line; we need editors to push us to be the best we can be.
6) Tell me about your latest release
Sasha’s Calling from Loose Id is our latest release. Sasha’s Calling is an erotic space opera. For those who aren’t certain what a space opera is, think Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars. Space operas are high adventure, usually take place away from earth, and there are plenty of space ships involved. HA!! Of course, there must be stakes of galactic proportions to deal with.
7) Tease us with a blurb or short excerpt
Nothing can stop freelance thief Sasha Smirnov from saving her planet -- except, Dirk, the gorgeous ambassador with polychrome eyes. Is it lust or designer pheromones? He is hot, too hot to resist -- or forget. A single, sizzling kiss burns him into her memory, and her body, but she can't afford to stop for passion, let alone love.
Sasha needs to get as far away from Dirk as possible and take the classified data she stole with her. So she stows away on a ship outward bound, only to discover Dirk's the pilot. Now she can't get away from him, or the system, but he will let her into his bed...
8) Which is your favorite character in the book? Why?
There are two main characters, our hero Dirk Roscopilot and heroine Sasha Smirnoff. We like these characters equally. They compliment each other well. Sasha, on the wrong side of the law, Dirk on the right side off the law—or the legal side, anyway. Heh heh. But the big difference between them isn’t what side of the law their on, but how they interpret that law.
9) What are you working on right now?
We’re working on another erotic science fiction Fontana’s Trouble. Fontana has been sent to Sagitariun, the fantasy planet, where she is supposed to be taking a much needed vacation after losing a coworker on her last assignment. What Fontana doesn’t know is that her superiors have bought her a fantasy package.
10) Your biggest piece of advice to aspiring novelists?
Learn your craft. Simple. Right?
11) Where can readers find you?
Feel free to connect with us at twitter, if you like
Thanks for having us!
You're welcome - can't wait for the comments and questions. Please tell us more about your joined writing process, it intrigues me so much!
Welcome Breathless Press author, Dianne Hartsock!!
Welcome, Dianne, lovely to have you here! I am hearing more and more great things about Breathless Press and I love their covers! How are you finding them as a publisher? Did you work with the same editor on both your stories?
In case you haven't guessed, I love learning how other publishers work when compared to my own - just nosy, lol!
Let's get started, shall we?
Thank you, Rachel, for having me as a guest today.
1) Did you set any goals for 2011?
I think writers always set goals for themselves. Sometimes one’s out of reach! But that’s what makes the small successes all the more fun. I usually write novel length MS’s, without any luck finding a publisher for them. This year I decided to try something new. I flirted a little with erotica in my novels, and thought I’d try my hand at a few m/m short stories. I wrote ‘Shelton in Love’ in January, and after many rewrites, I had it picked up by Breathless Press. I’m published! Finally, I reached a goal I had set.
2) What is the best part of the writing process for you?
There comes a moment in writing where I’m totally immersed in the story. The interaction of the characters is alive and vibrant; the story line is progressing smoothly. I’m right in the scene with them, heading down path A, when suddenly the characters take things into their own hands and go down path B instead. I don’t know what’s down that way! Is it dangerous? Fun? I follow them blindly, letting them lead me where they will. I absolutely love that.
3) The worst part?
The rejection letter. We’ve all seen them. I obsessively check my mail when I send out query letters. When I get a reply, my heart’s pounding when I open it up. They always start out with a nice line, BUT, they can’t represent me, or the story doesn’t fit their publication list for the year. Blah, blah, blah…
4) What is the book you wish you’d written?
There are a lot of writers who’s work I admire, or envy J, but instead of a book, there’s a scene from a movie I wish I’d come up with. Remember at the end of ‘The Six Sense’ where the man realizes he’s actually a ghost? That scene blew me away. I hadn’t seen it coming. What an incredible twist! I started the movie over again, just so I could catch all the clues pointing to him being a ghost instead of real. So well acted by everyone. I wish I could write plots like that one.
5) Favorite author/s & book/s?
Oh, too many to list! Let’s see, there’s everything by C.J. Cherryh. Everything by Dean R. Koontz. Everything by Michael Crichton and Robin Cook and Michael Stewert and Michael Palmer. Oh, and Elizabeth Peters and Patricia Cornwall. If you haven’t noticed, I’m an incurable bookworm!
6) Tell us about your latest release?
‘Shelton in Love’
Breathless Press: http://www.breathlesspress.org/Book/291
Amazon: http://amzn.to/m3VJDe
All Romance eBooks: http://bit.ly/lCYZ0R
One of the characters in my novel ALEX is bisexual, and though it’s only mentioned lightly in the book, I became curious what it would be like for a man to be in love with another man. How would they interact? How do they fit together? This is what I set out to discover when I wrote ‘Shelton in Love’, and I admit, I enjoyed writing every line of it!
Shelton is falling hard for his best friend and roommate, finding Nevil’s dark good looks and moments of gentleness almost impossible to resist. But Nevil is more interested in affairs of the body than the heart. As Shelton’s desire for the man grows, he wonders if he can change Nevil’s mind. But does he even want to? Nevil might not stay, once he learns Shelton’s secret, and then Shelton’s loneliness would be complete.
7) Tease us with a blurb/short excerpt
Shelton chuckled, already stripping out of jacket and shirt as he crossed to the curtained booth. Tera was always in a rush, bursting with more energy than two or three other people combined.
Stepping into the booth, he quickly changed from jeans into the coffee-brown slacks and white dress shirt hanging on the rack. Slipping his arms through the ivory-colored vest, he slung the coffee-and-tan tie around his neck and returned to Tera's side, tucking in the shirt as he went.
Shelton glanced up at a low whistle, feeling the tingle of a blush in his cheeks under Nevil's appraising eyes. He tried to stifle a surge of excitement that Nevil had come to watch the photo shoot, when he hadn’t seemed interested earlier. Plans must have changed with Percy.
"You dress up nicely," Nevil assured him as he stepped closer to bat Shelton's fumbling hands away from the tie. "Let me do that."
Shelton concentrated on Nevil's fingers on his tie, urging his heart to stop racing before Nevil felt it pounding under his fingertips or heard its wild patter. Nevil's breath brushed his cheek and his spicy cologne sent his senses whirling.
Why was the man so damned attractive?
Shelton hardly noticed Tera slipping a jacket on his arms until Nevil commented on it, rubbing the silk and wool material between his fingers. "Nice."
Shelton glanced at his sleeve and admired the sharkskin pattern of taupe and tan and black checkers. He shrugged his shoulders, delighted with the fit and comfort of the sport coat. "A new one?" he asked Tera.
"I've had the design finished for months but couldn't decide if it should go in my summer or fall catalog."
Nevil finished with the tie and stepped back, looking Shelton up and down. "Definitely summer, though I'd wear a coat like that all year round. Almost any color of slacks would go with it."
"Or socks," Shelton muttered, a reminder to himself as Nevil ran his fingers through his hair, sending sparks of desire through his body as the man mussed his curls.
Nevil tilted his head to take in the overall affect. A lazy smile spread on his face while a warm gleam entered his fantastic eyes. "Delicious." His gaze lingered on Shelton's shoulders before sliding down to his hips.
Shelton wished the coat was buttoned as he felt a twitch in his groin, his body perking up at the attention. The whirl of the camera in Tera's hand recalled him from the tantalizing thought of Nevil's hands on him as well as his gaze, and Shelton moved to stand under the soft light she set up to complement the glow from the setting sun.
He thought he'd feel awkward with Nevil watching as he posed, but instead found the man's presence exhilarating. Shelton knew he looked his best and Nevil's admiring attention bolstered his confidence. Ignoring the stares of a few passersby, he flirted with the camera, losing his inhibition as Tera called encouragements and clicked frame after frame, only calling a halt when the sunlight had gone.
"These are lovely. They'll fill out the catalog nicely," she commented, tilting the camera to show the men a few of her favorites.
Nevil whistled at one in particular, where Shelton had glanced at the camera through lowered lids, a secret smile playing on his lips. The overhead light brought out the highlights in his chestnut hair and lightened his hazel eyes, complementing the warm colors of his ensemble for an overall attractiveness.
"You'll need to stockpile this coat, Tera," Nevil observed, his eyes never leaving Shelton's. "Every man who sees that picture is going to want one for his own." His gaze was intense and Shelton colored at the innuendo.
8) What is your favorite attribute of the hero and heroine?
Shelton is a gentle, lovely man I can’t help but like. Nevil is vibrant, witty, slightly dangerous, yet he truly comes to care for Shelton in the end.
9) What’s next?
‘Shelton’s Promise’ comes out July 8th from Breathless Press!
Also, my paranormal/suspense novel ALEX will be released soon from Solstice Publishing.
AND, I have a short ghost story ‘The Trials of a Lonely Specter’ due out from MuseItUp in October.
Currently, I’m working on another erotica, this time a fantasy novella where my hero is led astray by a beautiful, magical young man.
10)
Tell me where you write?
On my laptop at the dining room table. There’s a large picture window on my left overlooking the garden, and straight ahead, thru the kitchen, is the sliding glass doors to the backyard. I have light and beauty and music all around me. Also, if I try to write anywhere else, I get lazy. When I sit at the table I know it’s time to WRITE.
11)
Where would you like your career to be in 5 years?
I’ve written two fantasy novels that I’m still reworking. I’d be in heaven if they could be published in the next five years.
12) Where can we find you?
Welcome Siren Publishing author, Angela Claire!
Today, I have Siren Publishing author, Angela Claire visiting. Angela has some great stories both published and soon to be published. I love your covers, Angela, really nice. Can't wait to hear more about you and your work.
Take it away!
Who is your favorite author and why?
That’s a tough one. I would say that dating back to my college days, my favorite author has been Raymond Carver. He was writing bleak, incredibly stirring short stories in the 1980s. I couldn’t get enough of him. I would pore over each sentence. These days, though, I don’t much have the time to ‘pore’. I like a quick happily ever after, still stirring, but not so bleak. In this category, I would say my favorite author is Shannon McKenna. She writes sexy, exciting romantic suspense.
2) When did you first consider yourself a writer?
Actually, I used to write stories as a kid and give them to people to read. When I was in fifth grade, I wrote a book about quintuplets. So I definitely considered myself a writer back then. When I grew up and started worrying about financial matters, I lost that part of myself and stopped writing (anything fun, that is). A few years ago, though, my husband bought me a cute pink computer for Christmas and the writing just happened again. When Siren agreed to publish my first book, Saving McCade, I was elated. I definitely felt like a writer again at that point!
3) Describe your writing space?
I write in our family room on the couch by the fireplace with the computer on my lap and a cat usually lurking around trying to get on my lap. It doesn’t sound very comfortable, does it? But it works for me!
4) What are you reading now?
I’m ashamed to say I’m not reading anything because I’ve been so obsessed with writing lately. I think the last book I read was Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Before that, I was reading all of Sabrina Jeffries’ books in order. I love her!
5) How many books have your written? Which is your favorite?
I have written five books for Siren, three of which are already out with two coming soon. Trite as it sounds, my books are like my kids...I just don’t have a favorite. (I love them all, kids and books!) I will say that I have a special fondness for
To Catch a Pirate,
though, because it really didn’t sell as well as the others. So it’s almost like I feel bad for the least popular one. At the time of writing it, I actually thought it was my best. I had such fun with writing about a dashing hero who kidnaps the heroine. (I think I’ve always been stuck on that ‘Calgon take me away’ idea!)
6) What comes first, plot or characters?
Definitely the characters. Then I create the plot around them.
7) Do you ever suffer from writer’s block?
Not yet! I’m too excited to be writing again.
8) What do you like to do when you’re not writing?
Eat cookies. Really. Big soft sugar cookies. That’s my favorite thing to do when I’m not writing. Consequently, I have to exercise a lot to try to counteract it! I like to watch Netflix streaming too (sometimes while I’m exercising). It is such a great invention, allowing me an endless supply of cheesy movies and old t.v. shows.
9) Tell us about your latest book?
Actually, my latest out is To Catch a Pirate and the one that should be out shortly is called Jesse’s Girl.
To Catch a Pirate is, needless to say, about a pirate. Jamie Banion is a gentleman pirate, the son of a woman pirate. He falls in love with Evelyn, the woman who, unbeknownst to him, has deliberately lured him into taking her ransom in order to catch him.
Jesse’s Girl is a western that takes place after the Civil War. It’s a sequel to Heart of Stone and revolves around two of the characters in that book. Jesse is an easy-going ladies man of a cowboy who lusts after the town princess Regina in the earlier book. At the beginning of Jesse’s Girl, Regina’s father has just traumatically died and she turns to Jesse for comfort, asking him to make love to her. He thinks it would be a crime to take advantage of her vulnerability at that moment, so he turns her down and leaves town. When he comes back almost two years later, he wants what she begged him to take before and she’s having none of it.
10) What’s next for you?
My next one out from Siren is also a Western that takes place in the same Colorado town that Heart of Stone and Jesse’s Girl do. In this one, The Outlaw Takes a Madam, there are twin brothers, one a doctor and the other a gunman. There is a lot of masquerading one for the other and it’s compounded by the fact that the heroine is the secret madam of the local whorehouse who is pretending to be a respectable spinster. I know it sounds kind of crazy, but I have a lot of fun with it.
Thanks!
