Welcome Red Sage author, Kate Deveaux...

Welcome, Kate! Great to meet you and to have you visit as a part of your ongoing tour - let's get started with the questions...

1.    What do you wish men understood about women?

Women need to talk. That’s it in a nutshell, plain and simple. By talking we learn, and that’s the key to how a woman reveals her deeper self and trusts a man. But men also need to know women like sex just as much as men do. And we can do it all night long!!! J

2.    Do you only work on one book at a time?

I wish! Gone are the days when I could write one book at a time, now I usually have a few on the go, plus working on edits for books under contract and jotting down details for new book ideas a I have them. Every once in a while I might get a week or two to work on just one book and it’s heaven, really it is.

3.    Who is your favorite fictional couple?

My favorite fictional couple. I love Joan Wilder (played by Kathleen Turner) and Jack Colter (played by Michael Douglas) from Romancing the Stone. I know it’s an oldie and probably dating me in the 80’s but first of all Joan Wilder’s character was a romance writer (who doesn’t love that?) and I think the whole story line of Romancing the Stone was the quintessential romance.

4.    Do you have a favorite quote that sums up how you feel about life?

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not a train.”

    5.    Do you set daily writing goals? Word count? Number of chapters? Do you get a chance to write every day?

I used to set daily writing goals but as I often am juggling a few writing tasks at once in a day I am happy if I write 5 pages or more a day on any given book. Some days are better. Some or worse.

6.    What do you like better, Twitter or Facebook? Why?

I like Twitter better I think, the exchange of information is much faster and easier to share.

7.    What are you working on now?

I’m working on HOT AS HADES, a scorcher of an erotic romance set in the Arizona desert in the middle of summer when a “bad boy” meets his new neighbor — an uptight career woman in desperate need of some very good “bad.”

“Hey there, Jody,” he called out.

“Oh, hi….Taggart,” she said with surprise, pretending she hadn’t seen him.

“We really have to stop meeting like this.” He smiled and walked towards her   down the narrow hall dotted with luggage.

She laughed nervously at the cliché that was proving all too true if she was to keep her sanity. “I guess so. Well, this is my room.” She fidgeted with her keycard as he came up beside her.

“Mine’s just down the hall.” Taggart pointed behind him, but he just stood there, his tall frame close to her. She looked up at him, overly aware of the scent of sandalwood, one of her favorites. Very masculine.

“Mmm...coincidence,” she said, the hallway becoming smaller by the minute when he flashed that boyish smile, with one corner of his mouth raised. Cocky, but undeniably sexy at the same time.

Unable to break the gaze, she tried to insert the keycard into the lock, not paying attention to what she was doing. The card grazed the slot and she forced her eyes away from his.

“I guess you didn’t find your friends after all?” he inquired, leaning casually against the wall, as she slid the keycard all the way in the lock.

Caught red handed at her own lie, she smiled down at her shoes. “No, I didn’t.”

“So you can have that drink with me after all,” he stated flatly, placing his hand over hers as she held the key in the lock.

Her heart pounded in her chest. She couldn’t move a muscle. “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” she said.

He frowned but left his hand on hers. “Because?”

Because? Her mind raced. She couldn’t tell him it was because she was afraid. Afraid how her body trembled when he was near, how her cheeks burned and her sex thrummed.

“I’ll wait,” he said with a devilish grin eyeing the keycard still in the lock.

“I really don’t think it’s a good idea, is all.”

“You already said that,” he said straight faced, but she could see the playful look in his eyes. As he removed his hand, he continued to lean easily on the doorframe, his face close to hers as if he had all the time in the world to wait for her to be ready. He was close enough she could see the barely visible laugh lines when he smiled and the slight five o clock shadow on his chiseled jaw.

“Look Taggart,” she said, just saying his name made her heart beat faster. “I’m not ready for…” her heart beat rapidly thinking about just what she wasn’t ready for… to be intimate with a man.

“Ready for what?” he teased. A flush of desire rushed through her. He was playing with her, flirting with her.

Welcome erotic romance writer, Cari Silverwood...

1)            Who or what has been your biggest influence as a writer?
That’s a really difficult question as I’ve had so many influences. Every great book I’ve ever read influenced me to some extent. The way they were written no doubt leached into my brain. There is no person close to me who encouraged me to write so my influences have been a combination of my own love of reading and stories and a desire to have a good book published.
Authors who influenced me range from Cherise Sinclair and Jacqueline Carey, to Robert Heinlein, Iain M. Banks, Stephen King, and Terry Pratchett.
2)            How long does it take you to write a 50,000-60,000 word manuscript?
If you include the thinking at the start, probably two to three months. The actual writing tends to accelerate as I get deeper into the story and properly understand the characters and the way the plot moves. It took me three years to finish my very first book – a fantasy.
I don’t write too many books that short, but if 60,000 words long, the actual writing might take a month and a half. I pause often to rethink the plot and why the characters would act the way they do, and to figure out whether there is enough tension to pull the reader through the story.
A lot of my time at the very beginning is spent just mulling over how things might unfold and finding a story that interests me enough to want to write it. That thinking can take an extra few weeks and it’s one of the things authors have to do that isn’t always mentioned.
Plunging into a story without doing some form of thinking about where it is going would be very unlikely to work, no matter how much of a ‘pantser’ writer you think you are.
 3)            Tell us about a new author you’ve recently discovered.
The author of Prince of Thorns. Mark Lawrence. It’s a fantasy with an antihero, and it’s not a romance.
4)            Name two romances you’ve read more than once.
I don’t read straight romance really. I’m not sure I’ve reread any of my erotic romances. (Though I have reread the erotic bits on occasion!) But I adore Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel’s Dart series. They are romances, I guess, but set within an amazingly complex alternate earth where the religions are based around sexual relationships, including BDSM. I have reread Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, which isn’t pure romance but it has a wonderful love story inside its pages.
5)            Tell us about your first car
A Mitsubishi Sigma, a car that I doubt was ever in the USA. I’m Australian. It was a standard four door sedan. Nothing amazing. I wish I could say I now have a Porsche but I don’t. J
Blurb:
Taking what you want may come at a terrifying price.
Chris calls his darkest, nastiest fantasy into the light of day when he has to kidnap Kat to save a friend. For years, he’s wanted to bring her to her knees.
But claiming her draws attention. Andreas wants to save Kat, until he sees her response to raw male dominance.
More dangerous are the human traffickers, who regard the acquisition and selling of women as a very high stakes business. And they’re watching. Everything.
Death. The perversion of love. The loss of freedom.
Sometimes there is no choice.
Warning: Capture fantasy; dubious consent; anal play; strap-on; M/f/M and f/f scenes; BDSM themes including caning, spanking, bondage, and piercing, as well as some upside-down naughtiness.
Also contains one Dom gone bad who believes obsession means never having to say you’re sorry.

Excerpt - PGish

The water might be cold but she was warm against my skin. I couldn’t help admiring her curves as I smoothed away the grime of all that had happened to her over the last day. A few times she stirred and pushed at my hand but I persisted. Her skin was pale, accentuating the red of her bra and black of her panties – color coded scraps of cloth that screamed sexual territory. All the best bits were underneath those. Her lips were plump with the promise of kisses. Long legs, female contours…

Damn.

At last the tape loosened and I gently pulled the bits away from each strand of her hair, revealing her face. What color were her eyes? I turned her face upward and stroked her cheek until she opened them.

Gray. A pretty and liquid light gray.

“Hi,” I said softly.

She only groaned quietly and blinked.

When she turned her cheek away and nestled back into me, curving her back and drawing up her legs so the water swirled, I had to clamp down on a surge of emotion. Her eyelids drifted down again. She clung to my leg with both arms – determined yet weak. Her hair swept in lazy arcs against the masculine heaviness of my thigh.

Beauty personified.

I ached somewhere deep inside. What did Chris want to do to her?

The draw to protect her was so strong. I didn’t care what she might or might not have done. So cute all snuggled around me. I’d never had a woman do this. Ever. Not in such a vulnerable way.

“Hey, baby girl.” I stroked her cheek again. “I’m going to get you out of this.”

She stirred but her eyes stayed shut. “Not a baby. Fugg off.”

I chuckled and smiled. “Not a hope.”

Daylight was fading by the time we had her out of the bath and dried off.

When Chris wrist and ankle cuffed her and collared her with black leather, I managed to stay quiet. When he attached a metal leash, I fought not to explode.

Maybe part of this was that I also found her disturbingly sexy all collared and leashed. That scared me.

Welcome erotic romance writer, Sylvia Ryan...

Happy holidays everyone and thank you to Rachel for hosting me on her blog. I thought I’d do something different, and a little bit silly, in honor or the holiday. So here is my take on The Night before Christmas.
Twas the night before Christmas
And all through the house
My family is sleeping
Including my spouse.

I sit, sipping wine,
My preference is red,
Secretly reading                  ,
Instead of going to bed.

Just a few words,
I say to myself.
Inexplicably driven
To clear my bookshelf.

Between you and me,
I’ll admit I’m a junky.
Hooked on heroes,
Both muscled and hunky.

Whether on my nook ,
Or in hard cover,
I just can’t let go,
Of my fantasy lover.

So, if you see me tomorrow,
On Christmas day,
Please keep my secret,
Don’t give me away.

So Happy Holidays ladies,
And if you can,

Excerpt

Chapter One

The air in her bedroom was cool and sent a chill up and down her slender body.  She had grown familiar with the almost icy atmosphere in her husband’s home during the two years they had been married.  Indeed the very mood inside these rooms seemed to reflect his often-volatile personality.  He had never consciously hurt her, not in any real sense, but there was always that potential, lying beneath his calm exterior, as though he were a serpent waiting to strike.  She could not complain about him, for Lord Gregory Stockton was a most attentive husband, and Sarah was extremely lucky to have secured his affections.  He was a very affable gentleman in many ways, but he confused her.
Sarah found herself pacing the room like a caged animal, desperate to be released into the wild.  Her pretty blue taffeta day dress was tight, stiff, and restricting; yet it fit her petite body in all the right places, accentuating her small bosom and curving gracefully over her hips to drape softly on the floor.  The dress was specially made by the finest designers, along with the rest of her wardrobe.  Her husband had been determined that his young wife would be the perfect showpiece for his estate and his reputation.  She wore her soft golden curls pinned up in a diamante hair clip, and would shortly add her matching blue hat ready for her morning horse ride around the grounds.
Thinking about her daily exercise brought her mind back to young Marcus Scott, the stable lad.  Well, he wasn’t really a lad at all; he was a young man of around twenty-five years, older than Sarah herself.  She was only twenty-three, and becoming painfully aware of her lack of child bearing during her marriage.  This fact was further accentuated every time she visited her mother on the neighbouring estate, and Sarah was increasingly irritated and upset at the admonitions that it was her own fault.  Lord Stockton certainly did not seem affected by his lack of heirs.  Indeed he never broached the subject, and Sarah knew that it was nothing to do with his being embarrassed or awkward about it.  Far from it.  He was a most attentive lover, and that was another area where she could not fault her husband.
But it wasn’t her husband that she was thinking about on this fine spring morning, with the sun shining through her windows and offering to warm her cool body.  She found herself drifting over to look out at the garden, and her view of the green shrubs and trees, the flowers that were now starting to bloom in the warmer weather, and the distant lake upon which the sun sparkled and which would be the focus for her horse ride with her beloved pet Penelope.  Again her thoughts returned to Marcus, as she pictured him gently stroking Penelope’s flanks with long, firm strokes of the grooming brush.  He was truly at one with the Stockton horses, and each animal seemed to respond to him with love and gentility.
Sarah’s heart lurched in her chest as she spied Marcus walking across the gardens towards the lake.  His dark blonde hair was slightly long and tucked behind his ears, where it fell in soft waves to his neck, always inviting her to run her fingers through it.  He was already tanned from working outdoors, despite the fact that it was only April, and his simple white shirt, brown corduroy trousers, and leather waistcoat, together with the serviceable black boots he wore, seemed only to accentuate the curves and muscles of his very masculine physique.  Her mind wandered as she imagined what kind of a lover he could be, so wild and passionate, yet so gentle at the same time…
